Los Pueblos at Las Campanas

Santa Fe, New Mexico

We were retained to redesign four model-home designs, arranged in a cluster of thirty-two ¼-acre lots; surrounded by a development with larger home-sites. An initial attempt was not successful, and we convinced the developer that covenants created for the balance of the project were inappropriate for the project at hand. We helped rewrite regulations to establish a sense of neighborhood. New sidewalks turned the compound’s higher density to advantage. Houses were configured to front and surround inner courts from a variety of aspects. We transcended ‘cookie cutter’ sameness. And sales improved. The project received the 2002 Merit Award for Urban Design, from the Santa Fe Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
