Madden-Follingstad Residence

Santa Fe, New Mexico

On this project, we condensed building size with a compact plan capable of meeting the Client’s needs. We accomplished this by limiting formal interior circulation space; and stretched the footprint with a detached garage, providing enclosure to a garden area. Harsh late afternoon sun and steady winds drove a conservative approach to western fenestration. And we were able to open things up to the dramatic Sangre de Cristos; shaded for cool morning brunches, and spectacular sunsets (which ironically are sometimes best enjoyed turned to the east, with late light bouncing off magnificent thunderheads).
